Nygard Fashion Show

Last week there was a fashion show put on at the Nygard store down along Marine Way and I was there to help out as one of the Make-up Artists.

I could only be there for the early show, which was a shame, but I got to meet some great people (and win an Orchid in the raffle, haha!). I did make-up on a couple of customers and while I was doing that the two other Make-up Artist’s (Elena Ismail and another lovely lady I don’t recall the name of, sorry!) did the make-up for the three models (it was just a small show).

There was a photographer there, called Jennifer Strang, who was taking photos of everyone from customers to hair stylists and she sent a few photos out for people to show around. I think you can see more on her website, but here’s a few of us MUA’s a customer I did the make-up for, the organisers…

Royal and Langnickle brushes

I just ordered a bucket load of make-up brushes from Royal and Langnickle! I got a mix of the Silk Line and the MasterPro Line and can’t wait for them to arrive. :-)

I did take a look at their new line, the Revolution Line designed with famous Kevin James (KJ) Bennett. They look incredible but they’re not actually in stock yet. The site says they’ll be available in June/July sometime and I’m already seeing on the forums that a lot of people have either pre-ordered them or are going to order them as soon as they’re in stock! I wanted to add to my brushes now, so I left off buying the Revolution brushes until I have a little more cash put aside in my “Kit Pot”, haha!

Yukata Shoot in Lynn Canyon, Vancouver

I forgot to mention the shoot I did the other week with photographer Tia Toshizaki, model Akane Nishiya and stylist Ayaka Konno. It had a Yukata theme (a lighter, summer version of a Kimono) and Tia wanted it to be fairly dramatic with regards to the make-up. We went through some images, just to be sure we were on the same page as to just how dramatic is “dramatic”, as different peoples level of crazy is different from the next, haha ;-)

Tia drove us all up to Lynn Canyon where we thought we had limited time due to the warnings on the posts saying that they closed the gates at 6pm. We got Akane ready before we left for valley, and Tia had scouted the area a little while on a previous shoot a few days earlier, so we found a nice area and  she started shooting quite quickly. We moved on to another area, shot for a bit then changed Akane into a second Yukata for a different look then rushed back to the gates as it was very very close to closing!

As we were heading back to the gates, we noticed that there were still a lot of people, not only milling around, but actually heading into the valley. So, we decided to risk it, nip inot some trees and do a bit more shooting before we left, haha! Such dare-devils, hahaha!

It was nice to be outside for a shoot, and Tia was rather well prepared with a small sheet for us to put things on the ground while we shot! I also used a few fallen trees as tables, and some broken branches to hang my smaller bags from, haha (back to nature and all that, eh! ;-))!

After the shoot Tia mentioned that if would be around 4 weeks until she would be able to get around to looking at the images she’s taken that day as she had a very hectic time ahead of her. I said that was absolutely fine and I was expecting that kind of turn-around, so I was suprised when she sent me a couple of great images several days ago!! Way to go Tia!

About.Me

I completely forgot that I have a page with about.me! It’s basically a one page introduction to you or your business/service  for anyone that comes across it. I’ve linked it on Facebook and LinkedIn and I put my web address on it as well as some info about me being  Vancouver based Make-up Artist looking for projects to collaborate on with people :-) You can add several links if yo have various business or websites, which is handy. Not for me. But for someone, I’m sure.

It’s a good little promotional tool and it’s really quick and easy to set up. The difficult thing is trying to figure out exactly what to write, haha!

If you’re self-employed then it’s not a bad little tool, and since it’s free, what are you waiting for?!
