My Store

To make looking on Amazon easier for you I have searched for and saved lots of Beauty related items such as cosmetics and beauty books and placed them in a little “store”. This way you don’t have to contend with unrelated products that you have no wish for and can view the products you do want simply and quickly :-)

I’ll keep searching and saving more products each day to keep great products together in one easy place for you (and me!) :-)

Haiti Charity Single

I know this has nothing to do with make-up but i think it should get as much exposure as possible to help make as much money as possible for Haiti so here’s a link. You can also buy the MP3 download for £1.87. A good cause for anyone’s money. If you don’t like the song but would still like to give a little something to help those in need in Haiti then there are registered charities such as Unicef and Red Cross that are raising funds for the  Haiti crisis.

International Makeup Artist Trade Show 2010 (IMATS)

I wasn’t able to attend the show, but I’ve heard great things and watched some of the videos poeple have kindly placed on sites such as YouTube. I hope that no matter where I am next year I am able to attend my nearest show, as they are held worldwide :-)

The International Make-up Artist Trade Show 2010 was held on 30th and 31st of January. It held 2 student competitions (open to students from a recognised make-up school and those who completed the course within 12 months of the show). The beauty/fantasy competition was based on Alice in Wonderland, and the prosthetics competition was based on Grimms Fairytales with the students works shown on the catwalks later in the day.

There was a make-up museum with works from top professionals in the make-up field, rare photos and movie memorabilia and was under the direction of Cliff Wallace, who runs Creative Effects in the United Kingdom who create prosthetic make-up, creatures, likeness heads and more for film, television and promotions. Cliff has worked on many movies including Aliens, 28 Days later, Blood Diamond and Mission: Impossible.

There were make-up stalls, exhibitions and demonstrations. Key speakers included Alex Box (a high-profile make-up artist and cofounder of the cosmetics line Illamasqua who has been featured in W, Dazed & Confused and international issues of Vogue . She has also created looks for fashion designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, McQ, Peter Jensen and Gareth Pugh. Recently she launched a book, Alex Box, in collaboration with photographer Rankin), Vargas ( an internationally acclaimed body-paint artist and photographer with work showcased at the White House and is part of a permanent art collection in New Jersey. He created the artwork for the Body Painted Pin-Ups 2008, and recently completed a worldwide project with Miss Brazil that was released in 2009.  He is now working on two movies and has been invited to work with Sports Illustrated ) and many more! had their own stall and were  surrounded  by people such as Ruby Hammer (of Ruby & Millie!), Eve Pearl (of Eve Pearl Cosmetics and a celebrity make-up artist!) and folk like you and me looking to learn more about  Safe Beauty. Jackie Tyson (Chief Make-up Artist for the X-Factor) was there answering peoples questions, encouraging Safe Beauty within make-up and chatting about being a celebrity make-up artist.

I am so jealous ! I will be there, oh yes, I will be there ! ;-)

Random Tip #16

Vaseline – great for lips

Unlike body skin, the skin on our lips doesn’t create its own moisture layer naturally, leaving it susceptible to dryness and chapping. There are various types of vaseline available that are great for helping keep lips healthy and protected from the elements, that give a lovely shine in place of lip gloss and have other added bonuses :

Original – Long been a firm favourite in handbags and pockets

Aloe Vera – adds an extra soothing touch of hydration

Sun protection – with SPF15 helps to protect you from the sun’s harmful rays

Rosy Lips – brings out the natural rosy tones in your lips by soothing and gently tinting

Spring 2010 Make-up Trends

Paris Fashion Week has come and gone and thrown a few new and updated trends our way. Some trends contradict that of others, but show me a fashion season when that doesn’t happen. These looks wouldn’t be new if everyone did them ;-)

Here’s a few that will be making a scene this spring:

Red lips. They were here for winter too, and continue to be bang on trend whatever the season! Check out Christian Dior and Vivienne Westwood at Paris Fashion Week, Nicole Kidman at the UK premiere of “Nine” or Madonna at the New York premiere of “A Single Man”.

Depending on you budget (and bravery!) you could try Avon Ultra Colour Rich Mega Impact lipstick in Really Rosy, Max Factor Lipfinity in Frivolous, YSL Fard A Levres Rouge Pur Pure Lipstick in Star Red or Bourjois Rouge Hi-Tech LipTint in Rose Pixel.

Healthy honeyed suntans. As seen on the models at Chloe and more. Just a nice healthy post-recession glow ;-)

For a healthy glow try Versace Lights All Over Sun Glow Radiant Face and Body, Piz Buin Summer Sensation Self Tan Foam Mousse or YSL Sun Voile De Soliel Tinted Veil Tan.

Bright Colours. The idea here is that you choose nice bright bold colours, but apply them lightly so it’s not over done. Look to Emilio Pucci for inspiration!

For great colours try Barry M Dazzle Dust Eyeshadow, Avon Color Trend Eyeshadow Brights or Limited Edition Eyeshadow Shimmer Stick, Lancome L.U.C.I. Eyes Eyeshadow Duo, Helena Rubinstein Model’Eyes Eyeshadow Pallette Quad, Revlon Colorstay 12 Hour Eyeshadow Quad or Max Factor Eyeshadow.

Pale faces. Check out Alexander Mcqeen for white, sparkly, almost irridecent faces. Not sure if you need to go the whole hog on this one, but the good old “English rose” look never fails :-)

Depending on your goal you could try Biotherm Finish Silky-Soft Loose Powder or Snazaroo face paints ;-)

Berry Lips. This is coming through with a vengence with many shades to choose form and , if desired, many a star to follow. Berry lips have been seen on everyone from Kirsten Dunst and Heidi Klum to Drew Barrymore at the Golden Globe Awards and Rihanna’s dark berry at Chanel’s Spring 2010 Show. There is a shade for everyone, but if you’re not into a heavy berry then try a little slick of berry gloss instead.

Have a look at YSL Gloss Repulpant in Glossy Plum, Bourjois Rouge Pop Chic Lipgloss in Prune Glycero, Avon SpectreColor Lipstick in The Wines (6 colours in 1!),  Max Factor Lipfinity Lip Gloss in Brilliant Berry or  Avon Ultra Colour Rich Mega Impact lipstick in Personified Plum or Devined Wine.

Nude Faces. The key to this look defined features. Work on your shading and highlighting to show off what you have and create what you don’t ;-) No lip gloss, no mascara !
