A beautiful day and what do I get to do?… a three hour round trip on the the bus and skytrain for a pre-shoot meeting down in Surrey! It was worth it though, haha! The meeting went well and then I got to sit out on our 23rd floor balcony for dinner
Basically what happened was that I met with the designer/maker of the lingerie that we’re shooting for (Robyn at Satin Lillie Creations) and we went through some photos and magazine clips to see what kind of image she is thinking of for with each model (there’ 5). It’s one thing me as the Make-up Artist to think “oh I know what would look good” and another thing for us to be in agreement as to what the client was thinking and what I can advise! Robyn said she has no idea about make-up, but she still had some ideas on how dramatic she wants to go and what styles she does or doesn’t want for each of the models (sophisticated/young and innocent, etc).
It was a good meeting and I came away having seen photos of the models (five of them), the clothing that will be worn and an idea of what the designer is looking for. For the actual shoot I’ll have Clarissa Jorquera there to help. She’s nearing the end of her make-up course at Vancouver Film School and is extremely talented, so it will be lovely to have her with me for me day! (Yay for Clarissa!)
I organised a photoshoot (or test shoot) with Ian Redd at Ian Redd Photograhy here in Vancouver and I think it went well
One of my original models backed out at the last minute due to work but Ian sent out a casting call on his Facebook page and a lovely young actress called Megan Barrett answered. My other model was Clarissa Andrea, a friend of mine who I just knew would be great for the looks I wanted to try. Everyone was fantastic! I’m so thrilled to have been able to work with them and hope I get to do so more in the future!
The idea for the looks was kind of inspired by the 1930′s but with a vampy twist, if that makes sense, haha I had to change some things to fit my new model Megan, but she looked great. She has a natural “beach babe” look to her so it was fun vamping her up a bit with a black and red smokey eye and messy, pouty lips. I did two looks on Megan, the first being a simple winged liner and stained lips, the second being the smokey eye.
Clarissa had one look that we shot, then I added a bit of colour to her lips but kept the rest the same. I’m actually still not sure about the red lips and maybe should have left her with pale lips, but, you live… you learn! I borrowed a fantastic waistcoat from a friend at work (thanks Augustine!) for Clarissa to wear. It complimented Clarissa’s “cool/edgy” vibe and looked great in the photos with her skinny jeans and brown boots.
What happens now is that I get a CD with the photos on it and I get to choose the ones I want processed to be used on my website, in my portfolio, etc. Ian put a couple of the images up on Facebook already and I’m so pleased with them. I’ll put some images up on here as soon as I have them processed and what-have-you, then you can see everything for yourselves.
