RISE Fashion Show

Yesterday was the RISE Fashion Show at the Roadhouse Community Centre!

It was a great evening and I met some lovely people, including a model named Jazmine and the Key Make-up Artist Jacqueline Parker who did a great job designing the two looks we were to re-create on our models and organising all the Hair Stylists and Make-up Artists on the evening. (Jacqueline also put together little goody bags for everyone as a thank you for helping out, which was a lovely touch :-) ) I also bumped into a Make-up Artist/Hair Stylist that I met at the Nygard show, Elena Ismail. Always nice to see a familiar face!

The looks were quite simple to recreate as we were provided with photos and a small step-by-step guide on creating them. The first one was a smokey eye with pale lip, the second a natural eye with a gorgeous dark berry lip. We were told to just bring along our brushes and brush cleaner as the make-up we were to use was being provided for us by a company called Sappho Cosmetics. I’d never heard of them until this event, but I did really like their eyeshadows and bronzer!

I don’t have any photos as yet, but there was a professional photographer and videographer there photographing and filming the whole show and there are a few photos up on RISES’s Facebook page, but not of all the models or the whole show. Hopefully they’ll have the video up soon and I can link through to that for you!

All in all a fun night for a good cause promoting thrift and recyling :-)

Yukata Shoot in Lynn Canyon, Vancouver

I forgot to mention the shoot I did the other week with photographer Tia Toshizaki, model Akane Nishiya and stylist Ayaka Konno. It had a Yukata theme (a lighter, summer version of a Kimono) and Tia wanted it to be fairly dramatic with regards to the make-up. We went through some images, just to be sure we were on the same page as to just how dramatic is “dramatic”, as different peoples level of crazy is different from the next, haha ;-)

Tia drove us all up to Lynn Canyon where we thought we had limited time due to the warnings on the posts saying that they closed the gates at 6pm. We got Akane ready before we left for valley, and Tia had scouted the area a little while on a previous shoot a few days earlier, so we found a nice area and  she started shooting quite quickly. We moved on to another area, shot for a bit then changed Akane into a second Yukata for a different look then rushed back to the gates as it was very very close to closing!

As we were heading back to the gates, we noticed that there were still a lot of people, not only milling around, but actually heading into the valley. So, we decided to risk it, nip inot some trees and do a bit more shooting before we left, haha! Such dare-devils, hahaha!

It was nice to be outside for a shoot, and Tia was rather well prepared with a small sheet for us to put things on the ground while we shot! I also used a few fallen trees as tables, and some broken branches to hang my smaller bags from, haha (back to nature and all that, eh! ;-))!

After the shoot Tia mentioned that if would be around 4 weeks until she would be able to get around to looking at the images she’s taken that day as she had a very hectic time ahead of her. I said that was absolutely fine and I was expecting that kind of turn-around, so I was suprised when she sent me a couple of great images several days ago!! Way to go Tia!

Artist short film

I was asked to help out on a short artistic film being shot over the next few weekends and with the theme being mythical creatures…

…obviously I said yes!

The piece is very personal for the director and we’re meeting up on Tuesday to talk it over some more. I’m excited that it’s a fantasy theme as it means I get to play outside the limits of everyday make-up and have some fun with colours, textures and a few out-of-kit effects. Again it’s low budget but I see that as a chance to be creative and find strange ways to create the things we want with what we have and can afford.

I think Eddie (the director) said he wants everything done and edited by October 18th, so if it all pans out (which it will!) then I’ll have another little video to put up here for you all to see :-) Yay!
